Yes, today is my birthday. I decided to spend the day at work to make up for my short Christmas Vacation. Shawn started the day out right by buying me breakfast from Kneaders. He is also taking me out to dinner and a movie after I get off work.

How I Accidentally Called 911 on Christmas
So. . . .Dave and Annie and came over to Shawn's parents house to hang out with us on Christmas. Their daughter, Maddy, was very intrigued with an old phone that is in the basement. Since it was so late (instead of calling the house phone so she could answer) we dialed her Daddy's number from the phone. Maddy had the phone to her ear and I could hear a woman's voice. So, I figured it was voicemail and hung up. Immediately upon hanging up, the phone rang. I answered (because I didn't want it to wake up Jim and Carol) and a woman says, "Hi this is 911. We just had a hang up." I said, "What?! I was trying to dial (so and so #)." I told her it was a mistake and I honestly didn't know how it happened. She told me that they would send an officer out because it was routine. About five minutes (close to an hour later) after Dave and Annie left, the police officer arrived. I said, "I'm sorry. We have this old phone downstairs and we were trying to dial a cell #. I honestly don't know how it happened." He asked me if everything was alright and left. I felt sooooo ridiculous. I am still ticked and embarrassed to talk about it. The only way I can figure it happened is some of the buttons on the phone didn't work and the number I was dialing did have a 9 and a 1 next to each other. Boy, was that one embarrassing moment.

The Golden Compass

Despite all the rumors and ill talk of the new movie, The Golden Compass, Shawn and I decided to go see it last Friday. We both thought it best to decide for ourselves what the movie represented. We both loved it! There was nothing religious in the movie, although symbolically there may have been. The movie is about free will---being able to make decisions for yourself, not being forced into them. I loved the movie so much that I went and purchased the books. I am going to read them as soon as finals are finished. I will let you all know what I think of them when I am done.

Santa's Visit to I.M. Home

We had Santa come visit I.M. Home (where I work) for a few hours for kids to get their pictures taken. It was so slow at work that we only had a few kids. Cassie and I had our picture taken with Santa. (By the way, Cassie got a job there too!) Here are the pics.

New Hair Color

Well, I decided to dye my hair back to brown. Keeping it blonde is so much work and costs quite a bit as well. Here is a pic of the new color. I will post more pics later.

MY PERSONAL DNA
If you move the mouse over my DNA you will see what each color represents. Kind of interesting. I would say this is more of a personality test. But, I guess my DNA contributes to my personality.

Luciano Pavarotti has Passed Away

Famed opera Tenor Luciano Pavarotti, who appeared on stage with singers as varied as opera star Dame Joan Sutherland, U2's Bono and Liza Minnelli, died Thursday after suffering from pancreatic cancer. Pavarotti, who was 71, died at his home in Modena, Italy. For more information about Luciano's career and life go to cnn.com
I had the amazing opportunity to see Pavarotti in concert for my 21st birthday. (Thanks Mom.) We were pretty far back but it was still totally awesome. I have loved opera ever since. Pavarotti truly inspired me and changed my musical perspective. He was the greatest tenor to ever live! May God bless his loved ones at this time. If you have never heard Pavarotti I highly recommend him (especially "Nessun Dorma").
Update: Here is Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma at the age of 60. AMAZING!!!

Elvis Standup

Shawn and I went to Holiday (a gas station near our house) and I decided I would give the Elvis Reese another shot. When we were checking out the cashier offered me the Elvis standup. I didn't quite hear what he said the first time so I said, "Uh, yeah," and then realized what he was offering me. I freaked out! I was so happy, I told him he was making my week. Here is a picture (I look oh so lovely.)

Top 19 things I learned from the Movies
This list was on Digg.com and I loved it! Numbers 8, 13 and 17 are definitely my favorite.
1. If being chased through town, you can usually take cover in a passing St Patrick’s Day parade - at any time of the year.
2. All beds have special L-shaped top sheets that reach up to armpit level on a woman but only waist level on the man lying beside her.
3. All grocery shopping bags contain at least one stick of French bread.
4. Once applied, lipstick will never rub off - even while scuba diving.
5. The ventilation system of any building is a perfect hiding place. No one will ever think of looking for you in there and you can travel to any other part of the building without difficulty.
6. Should you wish to pass yourself off as a German officer, it will not be necessary to speak the language. A German accent will do.
7. The Eiffel Tower can be seen from any window of any building in Paris.
8. A man will show no pain while taking the most ferocious beating but will wince when a woman tries to clean his wounds.
9. When paying for a taxi, never look at your wallet as you take out a note - just grab one at random and hand it over. It will always be the exact fare.
10. If you lose a hand, it will cause the stump of your arm to grow by 15cm.
11. Mothers routinely cook eggs, bacon and waffles for their family every morning, even though the husband and children never have time to eat them.
12. Cars and trucks that crash will almost always burst into flames.
13. A single match will be sufficient to light up a room the size of a football stadium.
14. Medieval peasants had perfect teeth.
15. All single women have a cat.
16. Any person waking from a nightmare will sit bolt upright and pant.
17. One man shooting at 20 men has a better chance of killing them all than 20 men firing at one.
18. Creepy music coming from a graveyard should always be closely investigated.
19. Most people keep a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings - especially if any of their family or friends has died in a strange boating accident.

Update: First day back to school
THE BAD NEWS
Oh, I forgot to mention that someone stole my new book, Eclipse. It pretty much ruined my day. Here's how it happened: I had gone into the music office (on campus) and set it down on the table. When I went to leave, it was gone! The crazy thing is that my sister was in the room when it got stolen. Someone must have been pretty sly. I spent an entire hour searching high and low. It bothers me that someone is willing to sacrifice their integrity for a silly teenage novel about a vampire. (What really stinks is that I am only 160 pages into the book. I wouldn't have been as angry if I had had a chance to read the darn thing!!)
THE GOOD NEWS
My husband is such a sweetheart. He knew I was upset about the book, so, he ordered me a new one and it will be here next week! Thanks sweetie!

BACK TO SCHOOL!

Once again the time has come to dust the cobwebs off my brain and prepare for another semester of school. The summer flew by way to fast and it is kind of depressing that school has started. Oh well. On the plus side I get to see all my friends that I haven't seen all summer. For those of you going back. . . .good luck. Here I am looking bummed.

ELVIS.
Today marks the 30th Anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. In memoriam I wore one of my Elvis shirts and rented ELVIS: THE MINISERIES. (Which by the way is excellent.) It's crazy to me that if Elvis were alive today he would be 72 years old. Also, Lisa Marie Presley has recorded a new duet with her daddy (that should be available on iTunes soon) of "In the Ghetto." I can't wait to hear it. Anyway, here is a picture of Elvis and I.

THE END. . . . .

Well, I finished the final book of Harry Potter yesterday morning. I will not spoil anything for anyone but I am pleased with how the series ended. Shawn and I went to Walmart at midnight to purchase the book. When we got there we walked around and then we saw the line! I about had a heart attack. We got in line but we were told we needed a braclet in order to get a book. So we headed to the back of the store to get one and discovered the line we were really supposed to be in. I had reserved a copy in May. WE WERE FOURTH IN LINE!!! We arrived home before 12:30 and I started reading. Let me just say that the book is amazing. It's an excellent read and very thrilling.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Shawn and I went to the 12:30 AM showing and had to be to work at 8 AM that morning. We were planning on getting in line around 9 but things didn't go quite as planned, but we still ended up with a great seat. It was crazy! People were fighting in the lobby because the theater was not prepared for a massive amount of people and the lines were chaos. The movie was awesome! It was very exciting, there was a lot of humor and a lot of action. Like Transformers, I suggest you see this movie ASAP!

If you have not seen Transformers, drop everything you are doing this very instant and head to the nearest movie theater! Shawn and I just got home from seeing it a second time in 5 days. It is so amazing, comical and action packed. The best movie of the summer so far (and I am a huge Spiderman fan.) GO TODAY!!!!

Twilight Series

So the other day my great friend Mari loaned me Twilight and New Moon. They are from a teen novel series written by an LDS author named Stephenie Meyer. I read them both (about 500 pgs. each) in 2 days and am totally addicted to them. The next one, called Eclipse, comes out in August, which I am planning on pre-ordering. If you are into stories about vampires and romance (not gory or too scary, unless you are home by yourself reading) then I highly recommend these books.

Star Wars Celebration IV!!
Well, Shawn and I are finally home from L.A. (In case you didn't know we went there for the Star Wars Convention.) We had a blast but are extremely exhausted from many late nights. We saw many interesting and awesome things (a little Leia, Spidey Trooper, Elvis Trooper, a very Hairy Slave Leia, even Jack Sparrow.) It was definitely a trip of a lifetime. Here are some pics from the trip:

Happy Mother's Day!
I just wanted to wish all the Mothers' out there a wonderful day! Especially to my mother, Elizabeth, for being such an amazing mother; for being willing to listen to me and for being wise. A woman who sacrifices everything for her children.
Also, Carol, my mother-in-law, who spoils Shawn and I, and allows us to invade her basement whenever we visit. For always being there for her children (and grandchildren) especially attending special events like graduations, ordinations, concerts and so on. Thank you special Mothers', have an Awesome day!!
Love,
Sarah and Shawn

Car Drama

So, Tuesday night rolls along and I am running some errands. I get out of the car long enough to put some movies in the drop box at Hollywood Video; when I get back in the car, it won't start. With my luck, I am by myself and my cellphone has little battery life left. I call Shawn and ask him to call his sister and see if she can come and jump start the car. Shawn calls back and informs me that our brother-in-law, Mark is on his way to help.
As I am waiting I notice that there is an accident on Center St. Next thing I know the entire Orem Police, Fire and Ambulance are at the scene. Come to find out a pedestrian had been hit. The Fire Department closed off most of Hollywood's parking lot. (They were trying to tell me to move my car but that was impossible.) The victim was lifeflighted to a hospital and the helicopter landed about 40 feet from my car. It was a pretty traumatizing experience. The part that bothered me the most (beside the fact that someone was seriously injured and that my car wouldn't start) was that people were pulling into the parking lot to watch. I was so disgusted by these people!
After trying to jump the car for 40 minutes we gave up and ended up rolling it into a parking spot by the building. Mark was kind enough to loan us a car until we got ours fixed. The thing that ticks me off the most is that I had the car towed to a shop the next morning and after it being there for only 10 minutes they called and told me that it was the friggin battery! I guess it was so dead that it wouldn't hold a charge. Did you know you could remove the battery from a car and it could still start? New news to me. I am, however, grateful that the only thing wrong with the car was the battery. But it sure stressed me out a lot and now I am sick! This all happened the evening before my last 2 finals (which I didn't get any time to study for.) Anyway, that was the car drama story. (By the way, the pedestrian is doing fine, he is at Utah Valley Regional.)

School's Almost Out!

Can I tell you how excited I am that this semester is nearly over? EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! Now that I have my Junior Recital over and done with, finals are going to be a piece of cake! By the way, the recital went pretty well, I had a few flubs but overall it was really good. If I have any time I will post a video or recording. On to the next subject. . . . .
Spiderman 3 is less than a month away. Is anyone else excited about it? Well, not much else going on in the Kemple household. I'll fill you in when there is something exciting to talk about. TTFN!

Life

Isn't it amazing how chaotic your life can get? I think things will not slow down for Shawn and I until the semester is over! However, I am pretty excited for the summer to come; we have two trips planned. One to Los Angeles for Celebration IV and the other is a cruise to California and Mexico. Also, there are a lot of great movies coming out this summer: Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Transformers, Shrek 3. . . . . dare I go on? Not to mention the final Harry Potter book! Is anyone else completely thrilled and devastated about it?
The only thing I am really concerned about this summer is finding a more permanent job--a well paying job that isn't too high stress. Good luck with that one. If anyone has any suggestions on the job hunt, please, let me know.

Time for a Vacation

Man am I exhausted! This week has been very busy. Between the Aria and Temple Square Concerts (and the whole family being in town for them) it has been one heck of a week. Thank goodness I have a few days to rest my voice.
So, here I am sitting in the UVSC Music office on a Saturday while a Piano Federation is holding competitions. I had to be here at 7:45 AM to let them into the rooms and they didn't even get here until 8:20. Argh! I guess I shouldn't complain, they are paying me $10 an hour. Anyway, other than the two concerts, not a whole lot going on around here. Which, frankly I am quite glad about. I need a break (and so does my poor husband.) I will post clips and pics from the Aria concert when I get them. TTFN until I write again.

Aria Concert One Month Away!!!
For those of you who don't know, I am singing a solo with the college orchestra on March 1st in the Ragan Theater at 7:30 PM. I am really excited, but also very nervous. I am singing a beautiful aria from La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini (who composed many beautiful operas). I would love to see you there! In case you have never heard this song here is the best video I could find. It is an old school singer but it gets the point across. Here it is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RM3T2fhFXFs
Also, this semester is my Junior Recital. I have two other friends that are having their recital as well. We are going to be billed as, "The Three Sopranos." This should be fun! I am singing a few difficult songs such as: The Jewel Song and The Flower Duet. I still have to pick out my other pieces. I will keep you posted on when this will be. Until I ramble again. . . . . . . .

American Idol

I hate to admit it but I have this pathetic weakness for the first few episodes of American Idol. I have been hopelessly addicted to it! I find it rather hilarious and intriguing. Let me know what you think about this season so far. Here is a link to youtube showing some of this seasons rejects. Man is it great!

CES 2007

Shawn and I skipped out on school for 2 days and went to CES this year. We were kind of bummed that it wasn't held on a weekend this year and were only able to go for one day, however, we did see a lot of cool things. I was the only girl that entered a contest to win a THX certified sound system. I had to play the NBA 2007 game on the PS3. I have never really played a Playstation and am not really good with game console controllers. I did really horrible on the practice round but when it came for my real score I think I did rather well. Also, I won a webcam at the Creative booth. It is only worth $30 but we are going to sell it to help go towards the cruise we are going on this summer. Finally, we ran into Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper at the Nikko booth. Nikko makes R2-D2 projector's (but they cost $2500!) I told Shawn he could make one of his own for that price. Anyway, that's all for now. TTFN.
